Rakta Charitra 2 Movie review

Director: Ram Gopal Verma

Cast: Vivek Oberoi, Surya, Sudeep, Shatrughan Sinha, Zarina Wahab

Rating: Four ( **** )

Advice: It’s an ace. Expect more and get more! Far more gripping and far less gory than the first installment.

Ram Gopal Verma is back in the driving seat and he has a firm grip on the creative gears this time. He serves another volley of rural vendetta awash with bloodbath and gunfire through the sequel to Raktacharitra. He spins an engaging tale this time – that keeps the viewer totally at the edge-of-the-seat.

Raktacharitra ended at a promising note with the entry of Surya, the avenger and the sequel lives up to that promise and more. The film begins with a rapid recap and then takes off where it had left off unfinished business of vendetta. Both the films proclaim to be based on a true story, evidently inspired by the rise and sheen of NTR in Andhra Pradesh politics and his right hand man Paritala Ravindra – a thug from a lower caste. This role is essayed by Vivek Oberoi as Pratap. As Pratap rips off his father’s murderer with a scythe, he gets picked up by superstar-turned-politico, Shivaji Rao (Shatrughan Sinha) and he in turn vests powers in his assistants who end up misusing it. They plant a TV bomb in Surya’s house which wipes out his entire family. Surya who had earlier vouched to move his family away from the bloody ways of his village – is now consumed with fury. He is hell bent on getting even with Pratap and so he flings a bomb at Pratap’s car. But as luck would have it, Pratap escapes miraculously and Surya is on the run with smart cop Sudeep, hot on his trail.

Surya is forced to surrender himself to the Police when he is threatened about the safety of his wife Bhawani and his infant son. In a sweet scene, top cop Sudeep confesses candidly to Surya that he wouldn’t have given himself up for a wife! Also the court scene where Surya surrenders himself and despite heavy police protection is attacked by a hit man in the guise of an old woman is absolutely nail biting.

The revenge saga continues unabated even in the jail as Pratap and his cronies conspire with some inmates to target Surya. However, Surya is too determined and strong to lose out so easily. Meanwhile political players decide to field Surya’s wife Bhawani to contest elections against Pratap. In a desperate bid to regain his position of power, Pratap tries to have Bhawani assassinated. But ends being gunned down him self, leaving behind a pregnant widow and a grieving mother (Zarina Wahab).

The most laudable aspect about RGV’s this film is that he doesn’t try to glorify violence, instead he concludes by appealing in earnest to the perpetrators of violence that it won’t get them anywhere. Kudos to the peacenik effort!

The director injects the right dose of emotion and gritty vengeance in the film. Writer Prashant Pande weaves in a very convincing plot as to how the protagonists become victims of mindless violence owing to a series of strange misunderstandings. Editor Nipun Ashok Gupta crafts the narrative into an easy flowing tale. High praise for cinematographer Amol Rathod’s innovative camera angles – from extreme close ups to topsy turvy frames that add to the drama of the proceedings and the jerky hand held chase and fight sequences that lend an air of authenticity to the story.

Sound design by Debashish Mishra is also noteworthy with poignant silences and effective cacophony at the right junctures. Realistic fight sequences by action directors Javed Aejaz spice up the film further. All in all, RGV’s tech team comes up aces this time. Vivek Oberoi executes his role with requisite efficiency but this time the film belongs to southern stars Surya and Sudeep who are in top form. Veterans Shatru and Zarina hardly have much to do this time. Priyamani as Surya’s wife is impressive in her brief role.

On the whole, this is the director’s film where he asserts his creative supremacy and wins back fans after a long time.

Bindaas Salman

The Salman Khan-Sanjay Leela Bhansali war of words is most talked about right now.

If you have tuned in late, Salman at a charity event is reported to have said, "Arre, usme (in Guzaarish) toh makhi udd rahi thi, lekin koi machhar bhi nahi gaya dekhne. (In Guzaarish, a housefly was flying around, but not even an insect went to watch the film.)" To this Bhansali has retorted, "If such an old and trusted friend can be so insensitive I don't want anything to do with the entertainment industry."

In the middle of this feud, Hrithik Roshan the protagonist of the movie, chose to comment, "It's not heroic to laugh or make fun of a filmmaker just because his box office collections are not up there with yours. Guzaarish is a super success in its own way. And I will be hurt if anyone talks like this about Mr Bhansali. In my opinion a hero never gloats. When you are super successful, it should in fact make you more gracious and loving."

Question: Will this statement go down well with Salman Khan, who thinks of Hrithik as his younger brother? We aren't so sure. We got a few reactions from a few people on what repurcussions Hrithik and Bhansali's statement could have on their camaraderie with Salman.

This is what they had to say...
Trade analyst Komal Nahata said, "The media takes these so-called 'fights' more seriously than the actors themselves. In this industry, people are known to forgive and forget very easily. It's only a matter of time before Salman and Bhansali, Hrithik become friends again. Also, once a film is released, it becomes public property, and anyone and everyone has the right to comment on it. So what Salman did was not wrong. One should not get touchy about it. It's not like he criticised a movie that is super successful at the box office. 'Guzaarish' is a flop, and all Salman said was that not many people went to watch it, which is true! Salman is known to speak his heart out, and that's what he did! No one should hold it against him."

Salman Khan's brother Arbaaz chose not to comment on the issue. He SMSed, "Sorry, I don't have an opinion on everything or rather I don't comment on everything."

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh is of the opinion that this issue needs to be sorted out behind closed doors and not in the media. "After all they have been good friends once and it's not going to be difficult for them to sit and sort it out across the table. Salman is known the joke around and say things in a lighter vein. He is bindaas. At the same time, Bhansali is overtly sensitive about his movies. Hrithik and Salman, too, have been great friends and it would be fun to watch the two of them in a movie together."

Sameer Malik (30), a working professional, seems unmoved by the drama. "It really doesn't make a difference to my life if actors fight. Salman and Hrithik both are good actors. We are more interested in what they do on screen and in their films. I liked 'Dabangg', i haven't watched 'Guzaarish' but I believe Hrithik is very good in the film."

Kulraj Randhawa Is New Entrant In Bollywood

Kulraj is fresh new face of Bollywood and guess the movie she is debuting in Bollywood? It is YAMLA PAGLA DEEWANA with Deol clan. Samir Karnik is directing this movie.

She essays the role of a photographer in the film - one who's travelled the world and is in the picturesque city of Benaras to shoot for a coffee table book. She meets Bobby Deol, and gets pulled into the funny, mad caper.

"I had met the director Samir Karnik for another film, but after seeing my photos and audition, he offered me this role. Ofcourse I said yes,"  says the petite actress.

She's obviously excited about the film. "It's really encouraging to see the response to the promos. The phone's been ringing and emails are pouring in! It's great to see B-Town tweets saying they liked the look of the film. It is a fantastic feeling. Well, I'm Punjabi and on top of it there's no bigger star in Punjab than Dharamji. So, of course, it is a dream come true to work in this film. When we were shooting in Patiala, hundreds of people would gather with families outside our hotel. Even on cold winter mornings in Patiala, at 4 am the dhol would start with fans playing and singing Dharam ji's film songs at the hotel gate! I will never forget that experience," she says.

Kulraj takes her role seriously. "I essay the role of a photographer. She's independent, well travelled and has a mind of her own. I wanted to look the part, so learnt my way around a pro cam and shot some photographs while in character and on the sets. It was great fun, and I intend to pursue this passion for sure."

Piggy In 'I AM HARIPRASAD'

Everybody knows that Piggy Chops was the original choice for MAIN AUR MRS. KHANNA but it didn’t work out. Piggy was lucky though as film was a disaster.

Back then, the director Prem Raj Soni couldn't get Salman and Priyanka together for his debut film and had to rope in Kareena Kapoor instead.

Now the film maker is making I AM HARIPRASAD with Salman in lead and he doesn’t want to lose Priyanka this time.

Soni says, "Priyanka is one of the most talented actors of today's time and I respect her body of work truly. It will be a dream to work with her."

I AM HARIPRASAD is one of most ambitious project of Prem Raj Soni and unlike MAIN AUR MRS. KHANNA, it is not a love story.

The director also assures that the film has loads of humour to leave audiences in splits and hang on... loads of drama included too!

Now, we know that Salman and Priyanka had fallen out after PC rejected the role in 'MAMK'. It remains to be seen if Soni plays peace maker and succeeds in bringing the two hot, great looking people together.

Preity Angry

Preity is very upset with at least seven websites who published that Preity was involved in substance abuse.

Preity Zinta is suing them for crores of rupees after they published the reports.
The sexy diva is more upset that websites even reported that they have seen her name stored in a cocaine dealer's phone and that the person also had a picture of her using the drug.
It was also reported that Preity had checked into a rehab programme in US.

If sources are to be believed then Preity has already taken up the matter with the Cyber Cell of the Mumbai Police and got in touch with her lawyer. She is taking the issue lightly as the same news has been churned out to several websites and it looks like the source is the same person.

Preity on the other hand claims that news is totally fabricated and she has demanded that websites share the picture of her doing substance abuse.

The actress claims her brand image and equity is at stake because of such news and she intends to get to the bottom of this.

Preity was recently harassed by a Delhi-based person and she is doubting that this man is responsible for spreading rumours because of her fallout with him. sources believe that man behind this incident is in delhi.

Preity apparently has been unnerved by such shocking reports, but she is definitely not going to take it lying low. Once she gets confirmed verification on the identity of the person who is spreading such rumours, she will shoot off a legal notice and sue the person without any delay.

Sid's New Mantra

Though Deepika has not spoken about Siddharth Mallya publicly but actions speak louder than words.
That's what happened at the premiere of Dippy's latest film KHELEIN HUM JEE JAAN SEY at a suburban theatre on Thursday night.

Dippy and Sid came together with her father Prakash Padukone in a car. While the badminton ace occupied the seat next to the driver, the couple enjoyed the comfort of each other and the relatively roomy back seat.
The Mallya scion was by her side throughout the evening, except when he was busy helping his girlfriend's father.

Siddharth, who is more used to jostling crowds than the senior Padukone, escorted him amid the onlookers to relative safety.

His attentiveness towards Deepika's dad did not go unnoticed and quite a few B-Towners present at the event were impressed by Siddharth's actions.

Deepika was earlier seeing Ranbir Kapoor. They broke up after Ranbir's fidelity came under a scanner. Deepika and Siddharth were spotted getting cosy during the third edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) earlier this year.

She was the celeb supporter for Royal Challengers Bangalore, the IPL team owned by the senior Mallya. During her modelling days, the actress has also featured in calendars brought out by the Mallyas.
